Frequently Asked Questions
Q. My child needs a wheelchair with postural support; how can you help?
A. In our full assessment we will gather information from you about your child. Our Assessment Team will help you choose the most suitable equipment that can be adapted for their needs and wishes. We can advise on seating, postural harnesses and items that provide pressure relief.
Q. Who will carry out the assessment?
A. A trained member of staff. We have an Occupational Therapy Team and Mobility Assessors who follow a comprehensive assessment process to help identify your individual requirements. You are welcome to bring along carers, family or professionals if you wish.
Q. Where will I be assessed?
A. Most assessments are carried out at the Cornwall Mobility Centre where we have all our equipment and information resources to hand. However, if your circumstances make it difficult to attend the Cornwall Mobility Centre we may be able to arrange a home visit. Some assessments may be carried out in Plymouth, Exeter or Holsworthy.
Q. Do I need an assessment?
A. The assessment is our method of ensuring that we have enough information to help you make the right choice of equipment.
Q. Can I loan equipment from you?
A. Generally no but we can loan out certain items for a short time to see if they are going to be appropriate for you to purchase. For example, some vehicle harnesses.
Q. What is the cost of the assessment?
A. There is no cost for assessments of paediatric equipment, however, a full paediatric passenger assessment with a written report costs £50.00.
Q. Is there funding available to assist with purchasing equipment?
A. We work with local organisations, including charities, and can give details of where to apply for financial assistance.
