Trustees annual report
Below is the chairman's report for period 1st April 2006 to 31st March 2007. A full copy of the report is available by contacting the centre.
Following another eventful year, it is my pleasure to present you with our Annual Report for 2006 / 2007. It has been without doubt a year of challenges for us as an organisation and there are many other challenges ahead within an ever-increasing competitive and commercial market place. However, we remain resolute in our commitment to provide our services to people who have a need.
The Centre remains at the cutting edge by being involved in both local and National schemes to keep us at the front of service delivery for our beneficiaries.
Our Year in review...
A year of change is noticeably marked by the closure of the Mobility and Vehicle Information Service (MAVIS). Whilst this loss is noticeable as a National focus for mobility services - it may have benefits for the regional centres in focusing on local needs. The successful bid for the National Information and Advice Line previously run by MAVIS is a fantastic achievement for the Cornwall Mobility Centre, and the Trustees' thanks are due to our excellent management team and staff for this conspicuous achievement.
The purchase by the Forum of Mobility Centres of two fully adapted assessment vehicles adds yet another string to our bow and is an essential element for those disabled drivers who require drive from wheelchair assessment.
Following a recent decision by Cornwall County Council, many disabled people will also face new challenges with further curtailment in service delivery to people with moderate needs. As an independent voluntary sector provider we have been closely monitoring how we can assist to achieve the best result for disabled people by working with the County Council Department of Adult Social Care (DASC). We are currently working with DASC to develop a pilot for a Direct Payment Equipment Scheme.
And finally...
I would like to again thank the Friends, all our volunteers and donors for the continued confirmation of their support. Without this support our work would be so much harder.
We remain committed to the services delivered to our clients and welcome all comments and ideas as to how we might continue to deliver these, or how to develop new initiatives that will improve the independence of disabled people.
