Assessments & sales
What is a mobility assesment?
A mobility assessment is a method of determining the type of equipment most suitable for a client's requirements, including whether any customising or specialist adaptations are necessary in order to provide comfort, support, safety and independence.
Who is it for?
A mobility assessment is available for any person whether they are:
- Disabled
- Less able people of all ages
- A person wishing to obtain mobility advice and/or equipment
Who will assess me?
We have a team of Mobility Specialists trained with the professional expertise to assess clients' needs and recommend suitable equipment.
Where will I be assessed?
In most cases we like to conduct assessments at the Cornwall Mobility Centre where we have available a wide range of equipment for assessment and demonstration purposes.
However, if your circumstances make it difficult to attend the Centre, the assessors may conduct the assessment at an alternative location e.g. your home address.
A home visit may be required if you are purchasing a powered wheelchair or scooter in order to assess suitability of the home environment e.g. access, storage and charging facilities.
What does the assessment involve?
The assessor will commence the assessment by having an initial discussion with the client. This enables the assessor to gather all relevant background information relating to the client, such as:
- Diagnosis
- Functional abilities
- Current equipment
- Usage of equipment
- Pressure care requirements
- Posture requirements
- Method of stowage for transport
The assessor will demonstrate a range of equipment most likely to suit the client's needs, based on the information gathered. Measurements will be taken to ensure the client has the correct sized seat and chair. In some cases specialist seating may be required.
A home visit will be carried out where necessary.
Clients are reminded that they are under no obligation to purchase equipment following an assessment.
Once the relevant factors have been taken into consideration, and provided the client is satisfied with the assessor's recommendation, arrangements can be made to purchase the equipment.
